FUTA Opens 2026/2027 Top-Up Degree Admission for HND and Third Class Holders
The Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, has opened applications for admission into its Top-Up Degree programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. The programme provides an opportunity for qualified Higher National Diploma, HND, holders and candidates with Third Class university degrees in relevant fields to pursue degree qualifications in selected disciplines at the university. Interested applicants are expected to meet the stated academic and professional requirements before submitting their applications.
FUTA’s Top-Up Degree programme covers several disciplines across different schools of the university. Available programmes include Agricultural Extension and Communication Technology, Animal Production and Health, Crop, Soil and Pest Management, Ecotourism and Wildlife Management, Fisheries and Aquaculture Technology, Forestry and Wood Technology, Food Science and Technology, and Nutrition and Dietetics. Other available areas include Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Building, Estate Management, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geoinformatics, and Urban and Regional Planning. Engineering options also include Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Biochemistry is also listed under the School of Life Sciences.
For admission consideration, applicants must have at least five O’Level credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics. In addition to the O’Level requirement, candidates must possess either an HND or a Third Class university degree in a relevant field of study. Applicants are also required to provide evidence of their NYSC Certificate or NYSC Exemption Letter. The relevance of the previous qualification to the proposed Top-Up programme is important, so prospective students should carefully confirm that their HND or degree background matches the discipline they intend to study before completing the application.
The application process is conducted online through FUTA’s application system. Candidates are required to visit the university’s official website, generate an invoice for the Top-Up application and make the prescribed payment of ₦20,000 through the Remita platform. After payment has been successfully confirmed, applicants can proceed to complete and submit the application form. FUTA’s application portal also instructs applicants to create an account, provide their functional email address and phone number, complete the application and print the application acknowledgement slip after submission. Candidates should keep their login details and acknowledgement slip safely because they may be needed for subsequent admission communication.
The application period for the 2026/2027 Top-Up Degree programmes is scheduled to run from Monday, October 5, 2026, to Friday, November 13, 2026. Candidates should therefore complete the application before the stated closing date rather than waiting until the final day. Applicants should also ensure that their names, academic qualifications, examination details, contact information and other information supplied on the form are accurate before submitting the application. Errors in important academic or personal information can create problems during the admission and verification process.
Applicants should also understand that applying for a Top-Up programme does not by itself amount to an offer of admission. FUTA will consider applications based on its stated requirements and other applicable admission conditions. Candidates who eventually receive an offer should follow the university’s instructions for acceptance, registration and submission of supporting documents. The Top-Up admission route is particularly relevant to HND holders and graduates with Third Class degrees who meet the requirements and want to obtain a university degree in a related field. Prospective applicants should rely on FUTA’s official admission information for any subsequent updates concerning screening, admission decisions, registration and commencement of academic activities.
